Developers reveal major housing plan for south side of Cork City.

Cobh homes

Meanwhile, in East Cork, planning permission for the development of 71 new homes at a housing estate in Cobh has been granted.

Cork County Council had granted permission to Wayleaf Ltd for the development at Inis Alainn, Carrignafoy, Cobh, but several third-party appeals were lodged against this decision.

The scheme includes some 71 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes on a 2.55ha site located in the northeastern suburbs of Cobh town, around 1km from the town centre.

It is located adjacent to the existing Inis Alainn estate and close to the local GAA grounds.

Local planners had imposed strict conditions on the development when granting permission. This included a requirement for a childcare facility to be operating when no more than 30 homes would be made available for occupancy.

Among the matters raised during the appeals process were concerns about the narrow, boreen-type road which serves the area, the heavy volume of traffic associated with the nearby GAA club, and concerns about the inclusion of a three-storey apartment aspect in the development which, it was said, was "not in keeping with the existing houses in the area".

An Bord Pleanála has signed off on the development, though, noting that it is in compliance with the local area development plan.
